Destination Overview

This fictional destination, inspired by northern upland woodland hunting traditions, lies at the very heart of why I began designing this wingshooting simulation prototype.It is inspired by my own experience and deep passion for hunting my favorite upland bird, the Ruffed Grouse, during the brief but magical window of the fall season, when forests blaze with color, the air turns crisp, and frost lingers in the early mornings. Every step along the trail could flush a bird from the underbrush. I set out to recreate not just the mechanics, but also the atmosphere and raw thrill of those magical autumn days.

Masters of camouflage, these birds flush fast, vanishing into dense cover. A quick swing and an open choke are key to taking on this majestic upland challenge.

American Woodcock
(Scolopax minor)

Found primarily in the eastern half of North America, this migratory game bird thrives in young forests and brushy fields. Expert at staying hidden, the American Woodcock holds tight until you're nearly on top of them. When they flush, their twisting flight demands a quick reaction and an open choke.

A true-to-life simulation of Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock hunting — authentically recreated for the first time in a PC hunting game:

Explosive Flush Reactions – Birds flush with speed and direction, mimicking real-life startle responses that challenge the hunter’s timing and reflexes.
Seasonal Population Shift – The American Woodcock population fluctuates with migration, with more birds present in October compared to November.
Solo Trail Walk – The hunter navigates the terrain and rely on luck to flush birds unexpectedly, demanding quick reflexes and instinctive shots.
Virtual Pointer Assistance – When enabled in the settings, a green marker pinpoints where a bird is hidden, offering a more guided approach.
Hunting with a Pointer Dog – The dog tracks bird scents, signals its status with a simulated beeper collar, and holds point until you're ready to flush.
